Travel 1 weeks before baby due date

I’m thinking of going away to take a course. The course would take me out of down for seven days. It ends a little over four weeks before my wife’s due date for our first baby (and starts a little over five weeks before). The course is far from something I *have to* do: More just something I think would be fun for my own professional development.

I’m looking for hard stats and soft advice to help me decide whether to do this:

* The hard statistics part:
I’m scared, of course, that I’ll be out of town when the baby comes. (The course is pretty far away from where we live, without a ton of regular flights, so I am guessing it could take me up to a day to get home in an emergency). Can anyone provide any information/stats that could shed light on this? I have no idea how likely/unlikely it is that a baby will be born between, say, 30 and 38 days early.

* The soft advice part:
What would you do? Part of me thinks: This might be the last chance for a while to take a class like this. Part of me thinks: Maybe this is a little too close to the due date to be going away. Of course: You can’t tell me the “right” answer. I’m just curious what others would do. And of course: I’ve talked with my wife about it, and will continue to. She’s generally okay with me going.
